 | FANTASY ADVENTURE: - For around 30 years, I've been making notes on a book series which I always wanted to see written. To my surprise, writers from across the globe weren't knocking my door down trying to obtain these valuable gems of information which were jotted down on notepads and backs of receipts. - So, in spite of this minor setback, I finally decided that who better to bring these amazing tales together than the insane person who came up with them in the first place. That would be me, for those of you who may have missed it. - With great excitement, I spent 9 months pulling all the notes together and worked out the logistics of 5000 years of history in my new land. Evolution of cultures, migration of species, key battles, and of course the all important naming of people who will never show up in any of the books. - From this point, I selected the best 5 stories which happened around the same timeframe. I then broke each of these into 6 books per series. Wanting to include all readers, I selected 1 series for pre-teen readers, 1 for teen +, and the other 3 for adult readers. Each of these series interlace with each other via characters or events without telling the same story or requiring you to have read the others in order to understand it. Sounds simple enough to do, correct? My god, what have I started? - Overly optimistic, I wrote and edited my first book before editing it another dozen times with the help of many others. Finally the first book was out with all the hidden Easter eggs and links to the other books without the reader even knowing about it. Success! Now, the goal is to get one novel out per year plus two pre-teen illustrated books as well. - To date, I am on track, so don't jinks me. http://www.AlteredCreatures.com
SHORT STORIES: - Every so often I write random short stories for myself or for contests. I've won some awards, which is always nice, but the real treat is just trying other types of writing and ending up with something that works. - Emotion is easy, Comedy is hard. I have found through my short stories that pulling peoples heart strings is easier than making them laugh. What is funny to my brother, my son, and I is not always hitting the mainstream reader in the same way. In fact, it often annoys them. So, my hat is off to all those daring people who write comedy, for they will be ridiculed more than those who play it safe.
